Costa Rica Seascape Photos by Lena Johnson

Costa Rica is a land of gentle people, gentle breezes and magnificent vistas.  Mountains drop into the sea.  Tropical plants are bathed in humidity.  Life slows down to a pace that allows your cares to slip away.  We traveled slowly through the mountains on narrow, winding roads that fell into lush valleys as we drove to the Villa Calletas Resort in Jaco Beach.  We took a right and traveled a mile up the side of a mountain and when we came to the top, we had a 180 degree view of the ocean below.  Exotic birds called out and orchids bloomed in the trees.  The frogs sang at night.  Lizards ran up the stucco walls.  Iguanas came to eat what the tourists had left and then lay in the sun to sleep.  In the afternoon, the rain rolled in over the ocean, cleansing and cooling the air.  I took an umbrella and walked through the pouring rain, up the cobblestone steps to a covered veranda so that I could sit and have a cup of tea. When the sun began to set, all the people came to the amphitheatre and took their seat.  There was no sound of planes, boats or cars.  No cell phones.  All was still except for the wind, the sound of water in a nearby fountain and the sounds of wildlife.  We were focused only upon celebrating a beautiful day.  As the sun dropped into the ocean, everyone talked in a hushed voice as we felt the peace envelop us.
