OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, December 18, 2009 from 6pm to 8pm at Museum of the Living Artist. (Work will be on exhibit through January 15, 2010)
Lena says: "This work is a photomontage that I created from a three hour photo shoot at the Chicano Park Festival. To create this composition, I utilized a digital imaging software program to isolate and transfer 110 fragments from 20 digital images onto a blank canvas template. This work is part of what I call ‘The Dream Series;’ a continuing series of photomontages that mirror the workings of the subconscious mind in the dream state. The subconscious mind stores a life time of memories and then pulls fragments from this memory bank to create imaginative and vivid dreams while we sleep. Mirroring this process, I isolate and transfer fragments from my extensive archive of digital photographs and create entirely new realities, or dreams, that contain memories of the experiences and places that I have photographed.”
